New Leaf Agriculture CSA

I was a longtime customer of Johnson’s Backyard Garden CSA. However, the abrupt discontinuation of their farm was unfortunate and I started looking for a new CSA. An important factor was delivery to Southwest Austin. I read an article on new CSA’s in Edible Austin and decided to try out Multicultural Refugee Coalition’s New Leaf Agriculture.

The fall CSA season is for 12 weeks and includes 7-9 seasonal vegetables, herbs, or fruit. All for $360 or $30 per week. I have about 2 weeks left and will be renewing for the Winter season. These beautiful bags of fresh, organic produce has been a joy! You can sign up for yourself or a loved one for January-March!

Special CSA?

Multicultural Refugee Coalition is a nonprofit organization that employs refugees, immigrants, and asylees in fair-wage, dignified work through two social enterprises, Open Arms Studio – a sewing/textile enterprise and New Leaf Agriculture – an organic farm.

Honestly, without the constant tending, it’s very easy for things to go wrong in my backyard garden. We had a grasshopper who was eating all of our greens! I feel gratitude for what NLA is able to grow.
With climate change/weirding, how can we depend on stable weather patterns? Many of the people who are working at New Leaf Agriculture are familiar with farming in their native countries. They have special knowledge of non-mainstream vegetables. I have loved getting a wide variety of Asian greens.
We love to eat ramen and hot pot at home along with various Indian dishes that mustard greens are perfect for!

Bountiful Harvests

Peppers, arugula, mizuna, garlic chives, radishes, basil, kale
Bokchoy, summer squash, cucumbers, lettuce mix, mustard greens, radishes, oregano
Hibiscus Roselle, cucumber, kale, collards, turnips, dry lavender
Watermelon radish, kohlrabi, turnips, baby greens mix, kale, mustard greens, parsley
Purple bokchoy, Napa cabbage, turnips, parsley, mizuna, garlic chives, kale

Give the Gift of Sustainability

I think your favorite cook would love a bag of fresh produce as a gift! After the holiday season is over and after all the desserts have made their way into bellies, wouldn’t it be nice to have veggies support those you love?
Here is the CSA sign up! New Leaf Agriculture
Oh how Napa cabbage is perfect for nabe or hot pot! Mustard greens are wonderful with chickpeas and spices. Makes a quick meal with some basmati rice. Isn’t that purple bokchoy gorgeous?
I’m signed up for the Winter season! Won’t you join me?
